5 Year Blogiversary Reflections

Yes, I realize that “Blogiversary” is not a real word but it’s appropriate for the 5 year anniversary of this blog. Time truly does fly as I can’t believe I launched this site 5 years ago. I remember the initial nervous feeling of what people would think or if anyone would even read it. While I haven’t devoted as much time to writing as I had hoped (if you read my IG captions, those are like mini blog posts daily), I recently sat down and outlined some goals and reflections on the blog and where I want to take it.

First, I thought having time to sit down and write blog posts would be easy but who am I kidding?! When I started this, my kids were in 6th and 9th grade and life was chaotic and busy. I truly had no idea what was to come with all of the teenage years plus adding a pandemic to the mix. Finding the time to connect via Instagram became my daily priority with occasional blog posts to support the topics.

Now that my kids are 19 and 17, I have much more time on my hands as they become independent and can really re-evaluate my interests and hobbies again. I was recently asked what my hobbies were and I have to be honest, like most working moms, I haven’t thought about the time for hobbies in years. Now that I am approaching a life transition, it’s given me time to think about what I really enjoy and what I want to try. I do still really enjoy writing and want to make it more of a focus again.

Here are some goals I set for the blog in the next year:

  1. Update the design. I work in Marketing so I know how quickly creative can get dated. My blog is definitely in need of a refresh so I will be exploring some new design options to give it a fresh look.
  2. Weekly Blog Posts. I think one of my challenges has always been that I need to have a grandiose topic to write about but honestly, not every blog post has to be pages long. I used to post multiple inspirational quotes a week on Instagram and I really want to bring some of that back here on the blog with regular weekly features.
  3. Get Deeper. Instagram is so fun and I love the connections I have made on there but I find I like to keep it light and fun. For me, it’s a highlight reel and an escape for me. That’s probably why so many of my posts are fashion related these days. The blog is a great opportunity to dive deeper into topics and provide helpful resources for anyone out there needing it.
  4. Connect the Blog to Instagram. It sounds simple but I am not technical and it is has never been a focus to connect my IG feed to the blog but I would love for them to be more of an extension of each other and who I am.
  5. Have fun with it! I am a classic perfectionist and overthinker. I re-read every post multiple times before hitting submit second guessing myself. In the end, the whole point was to have a place where I could share my thoughts and ideas in my own format. I truly want to get back to that and find that joy in writing again. For anyone who has ever clicked on this site and read one of my blog posts, I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the support. Look for more exciting updates in the coming months!
